What you need to know

Spring is here: But the soil, the bees and the fungi are leaving us

Bees, again? Worse than ever. 100s of millions dead. (CBS)
And soil? Moisture continuously declining… due to heat. Pity about crops and drinking water and stuff. (Carbon Brief).
Mushrooms? These fun-guys underpin much of life on earth. Not partying any more: 1/3 looking at extinction (Earth.org)

Q. Where is my flying car?
A. In China, obviously

Really? Yes. Pilotless passenger drones licensed.

Why this matters? The energy revolution is an everything revolution. Invest in batteries and drones - get flying cars.
Your challenge? Imagine the world that’s coming. This is a new age of invention.

Solar booms hits the global south now… prosperity looms?

They are more sunny, I guess. And how. 70% of the world’s renewables potential.
It’s on? 7x more clean energy installations than fossils in 2024. Pakistan installed 22GW: that’s 17x their entire solar a year ago 🤩
Changing lives? Will transform the world: new low-energy-cost places.

One thing to worry about

Concentrate. This is the whole thing. All of it.

Energy arrives from the sun. Some reflects to space. Before the industrial revolution it was in balance, over time, and temperatures were stable.

But we’ve added heat-trapping gases. More energy stays here, so the planet is getting hotter.

And the amount of energy staying is going up. 3x more than 2004. Now equivalent to 11 Hiroshima-bombs-per-second (@WeatherProf).

This is the most important graph in the world.

You should be screaming too

One thing to be optimistic about

50% clean power in 2024. Big milestone for the UK.

If you’ve got more time, watch this…

If I made a video about the climate challenge, it might be this.

Give it one minute, and you’ll probably watch the full five.
