What you need to know
China: carbon emissions to go down? And this year?
Seriously? It’s touch and go, but looks likely.
Why this matters? China has dominated emissions increases in the last two decades.
How? Crazy big building: solar up 44%, wind 24%… in a year 🤯.

Solar solar everywhere
Batteries are saving 4% of UK power emissions, already
Why this matters? Batteries help optimise renewables, meaning less gas.
Your challenge? Batteries can now pay their way - are you ready to buy one?

CFOs admit: we don’t believe our own green numbers
What? EY found half of CFOs worry their data is so bad it’s just greenwashing.
Does it matter? If your business is making promises - can you keep them?
So sue me. Yes. A greenwashing case is court already.

One thing to worry about
A timely study on how atmospheric rivers are altering weather (IFL Science):
In recent decades, atmospheric rivers that transport water vapor high above the Earth’s surface have shifted position – a radical change that could have an impact on weather patterns and rainfall across the planet.
We all saw Valencia. But did you see the Philippines? Or Columbia? All last week.
Scientists predicted climate change means extreme rainfall increasing. What if we, well… believed them?

One thing to be optimistic about
Record-breaking 8.3% drop in EU carbon emissions in 2023. Largest drop in decades. 👏
Staggeringly, the EU now emits 37% less carbon than 1990 - despite 68% increase in GDP over the same period. (European Environment Agency)

EU reductions in carbon since 1990 (to 2022 hence 32%)
If you’ve got more time, read this…
Problem: 20% of emissions come from big industry: cement, iron, steel. You know, the stuff civilisation is built on.
Solution: Producing this needs really high temperatures. That means gas and coal… or perhaps, hydrogen. But high-temperature heat pumps could be on their way. A new white paper outlines how. Tbh - a read for the enthusiasts.

Industry: So hot right now
