What you need to know

Biden was the true ‘drill baby, drill’ - though Trump will be worse

Joe ain’t a saint? No - issued more fossil permits than Trump. Production hit records last year.
And now… the Donald’s impact? Bad. New energy growth down by a third; an extra 4bn tonnes carbon by 2030.

Actually, AI uses less energy than… you

Really? A Cornell study found that for the same work, AI uses less energy than a human. Up to 2,900x less.
Am I out of a job? And how.

Yes, UK power is the most expensive in EU… but because of gas, not renewable energy

So what’s happening? Short answer: gas sets the power price for everyone in the UK. And in 2023 it was expensive.
Long answer? We use a lot of gas, don’t have our own these days, so import loads.
What can we do? Reform the way power is priced (being looked at) and build more renewable energy, as it’s generally cheaper than gas now.

UK prices are red for a reason

One thing to worry about

2024 will be the warmest year on record.

Whole year average will be above 1.5°C 🤯 (Carbon Brief).

It’s getting hot in here

One thing to be optimistic about

One solar panel per person… ends poverty.

Call it $200bn or so per 1bn people.

Jesse Peltan added solar to the FT’s famous graph, featured here before, which shows there’s no low-energy rich countries.

If you’ve got more time, read this…

Autoblog listed the legacy car brands it thinks may not survive the transition to electric vehicles (EVs).

Why? Big companies get arrogant. Watch VW’s CEO denounce Tesla in 2017 (turn on subtitles if you don’t speak German). Müller’s been fired, and Tesla’s market cap just hit $1 trillion.
