⏳ 10-Second Climate
Someday never comes / Creedence Clearwater Revival
Climate & energy are changing everything.
A new age of cheap, abundant energy beckons. Yet we’re not cutting emissions fast enough to avoid serious consequences.
A new world is coming - one way or another.
This is the fastest way to keep up.

What mattered this week
Bill Gates: Wrong then, wrong now
Wrong then? Endlessly pushed tech that hasn’t worked & probably never will: Fusion, small nukes, carbon capture, geoengineering etc.
Wrong now? This week, Gates claimed a little bit of warming would do us some good 😳
What’s he proposing? To wait for ‘innovation’ not bother with today’s renewables (that work, are cheap)
Sucking up to Trump? 🤔

Turns out wind farms saved GB £104B
You mean COST billions? Nope. Saved you cash money. New UCL study by an ex-hedgie data guy.
Err, how? Turns out Europe’s big renewables build lowered gas demand, meaning lower prices.

UK: The Saudi of Wind (but not really)
Watch what people do, not what they say: Saudi continues staggering renewables build
What happened? The ultimate petro-state is building renewables at astonishing scale. Latest is 3GW wind & 2GW solar in one contract. Targeting 130GW by 2030 😱.
Why does it matter? Cheap power locally so they can export fossils at higher prices.

One thing to worry about
How fast is sea level rising? 4.7mm per year is locked in, says the World Meteorological Association. Meaning at least 50cm in total by 2100.
One thing to be optimistic about
Denmark: Electric cars took 30 months to go from 20% to 60% of new sales 🤯🤯 🤯 (@electricfelix).
If you’ve got more time…
Is this the most important UK political speech this year?
Maybe.
“Make Britain Rich Again”
I’d wear that hat.
The UK is a great country with an extraordinary history. Our stagnation is real, but it's fixable and worth fixing.
Enjoyed giving this talk at @lfg_uk last week and so encouraged by the optimistic responses I've had from people who are building a brilliant future for Britain 🚀
